What's goin' on?

  • I hate the Yankees. And my problem when the Yankees win the World Series is that I feel like that WHOLE baseball season has been a complete waste of time. And we have to do the whole thing ALL OVER AGAIN next year, all the while putting up with the Yankees feeling good about themselves. Bah.
  • Hockey season is in full swing and I am, as of this morning, not in last place in our hockey pool. YAY!
  • The playoffs for the Canadian Football League (CFL) start this weekend. The local team squeaked in to the playoffs on the back of two wins to end the season and play the provincial rivals this coming Sunday. We shall hope for better results than they've had against the provincial rivals in recent games...
  • The rumours about Roy Halladay being traded to the Boston Red Sox are making me very nervous.

  1. I was curious about how long it was going to take OBW to re-energize after the World Series.
Allow me to give you a brief glimpse inside the mind of a Yankees fan (as I am one).

First, the Yankees should always win the World Series. This is as true as the fact that the Canadiens should always win the Stanley Cup, Brazil should always win the World Cup, and that American GIs should always be photographed with smiling ethnic children.

Everyone, deep in their hearts, knows these things to be true. (Don't challenge that until you read the rest...)

The difference is that different people have different views about HOW this should be accomplished. Some, like me, feel that the end justifies the means, and that if, to win the World Series, the Yankees must sacrifice all that makes them the Yankees, and be ruled over by a mercurial despot, then so be it. Others, perhaps like you, feel that IF the winning can only be accomplished by nefarious means (such as those mentioned above), then not only does it not count, it in fact is a betrayal of all the things that the Yankees (or Canadiens, or whoever)should represent. From that betrayal flows the hatred.

Rest assured, that while we all know the Yankees should win the World Series... we're all also pretty sure Steinbrenner never should (and we're not sure about Jeter).

    :D
